Hardly Working (Total Refusal, Avstrija/Austria, 2022, 20’)

Film gives priority to characters that normally fade into the background of video games: NPCs, non-playable characters that populate hyper real worlds to create the appearance of normality.

Borders / Confini (part of the omnibus 9 x 10 novanta) (Alina Marazzi, Italija/Italy, 2014, 12’)

To investigate the concept of ‘border’, the author used images of the Great War (from Archivio Luce) with a focus on real borders and trenches in an effort to push perspective beyond earthly borders to a more internal terrain. The footage – which portrays only what happens at the borders of the battlefield – is paired with the poetic writing of Mariangela Gualtieri. 

Train Again (Peter Tscherkassky, Avstrija/Austria, 2021, 20’)

Tscherkassky flits through the history of the filmic avant-garde, conceiving his work as a centrifuge of quotations from the pantheon of visionary cinema. He conjures heaven and hell, embarking on a collision course bound for the apocalyptic.

The end of summer always brings a sense of loss. A journey through memories of summers past in search of lost love – and ourselves.

Found images find different ways to live new lives in new films, acquiring fresh meanings and raising various political, social, and aesthetic issues and interesting questions. The one thing old images turned new films have in common is reinterpretation – the gaze of the filmmaker imbuing the images with new meanings that speak to their current reality. Join us for a panel discussion on the creative challenges of using found footage with filmmakers from the festival lineup: Emilija Gašić, Laura Samani, Bill Morrison, Neil Young in Davorin Marc. The event will be in English.
