Point d’Impact
Point d’Impact
Neil Young, Austria, Poland, UK, 2022, 64’

In the Youtube landscape, in 2020/21, hardcore Eurovision fans see Switzerland rise like a phoenix from the ashes of oblivion.
Eurovision was born in Lugano in 1956. From that moment on, Switzerland has always played an important role in the competition, followed by increasing public success. At the last two editions, one of which was canceled due to the pandemic, Switzerland was represented by the melodious singer Gjon’s Tears, who seduced millions of listeners and evoked responses of genuine emotions. A journey based on video materials downloaded from YouTube.
“The first Eurovision I remember watching was 1976, when ‘we’ (UK) won with The Brotherhood of Man’s ‘Save Your Kisses For Me’. I actually now wish that France, who finished 2nd via Catherine Ferry’s ‘Un, Deux, Trois,’ had prevailed. It’s the better song, and their backing singers included the man who’s now one of my favourite artists, Daniel Balavoine (1952-1986). I very belatedly discovered the greatness of Balavoine 45 years later, when people started comparing Switzerland’s 2021 entry Gjon Muharremaj (aka Gjon’s Tears) to him. Gjon’s song ‘Tout l’univers’ rekindled my long-dormant interest in the contest, and led – among many other nice things – to ‘Point d’impact.’ The magic of Eurovision!” – Neil Young
